For a non-textbook, this book is beautifully informative. I am a newcomer to the world of databases, and I found this book to be very explainative of the concepts of an object database and of the techniques used to implement one in C++. The author's prose style is professional, yet smooth, and his code is well written and well commented. Note that almost half of the pages of this book are source code for the PARODY system.
